Abstract
314,603. Smith, A. G. April 4, 1928. Right to Patent relinquished. Multiple - filament lamps; screens within bulbs.-In bulbs for vehicle lamps, of the kind in which a main filament 12 is arranged to be located at the focus of the lamp reflector and an auxiliary filament 13 is placed either in front of or behind the main filament to give a dim light, and a screen 18 is associated with the auxiliary filament to shield one-half of the reflector from its rays, this screen is constructed to pass a useful proporation of rays to enable objects ahead to be seen when the main filament is extinguished The screen may be of translucent material, e.g. glass, quartz, silica, mica, &c., which may be tinted, or it may be formed of wire gauze, as. shown, or as a grating the front 17 of which may be turned up to diminish the direct light from the filament 13.
