313,171. Lecocq, E. June 8, 1928, [Convention date]. Sizing.-In a process for sizing paper, yielding a cheaper and better product than usual and one more suitable for fixing dyes &c., the agglutinant such as alkaline resinate is used with the sulphate of an alkali metal to which is subsequently added aluminium sulphate. In an example, 40 grams of alkali resinate dissolved in hot water are poured into a beater containing 200 kgs. of paper pulp. After about half an hour a solution of 200 grams. of sodium bisulphate is added and after a further quarter of an hour a solution of 180 grams of aluminium sulphate. Any acidity of the pulp may be wholly or partly neutralized by means of a base or by calcium carbonate and the charge completed by the addition of an inert substance such as kaolin.
