Abstract
311,789. Johnson, J. Y., (I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.-Ges.). Dec. 14, 1927. Catalytic reagents.-Complex " Ansolvo " acids or their components are used as catalysts in the destructive hydrogenation or cracking of carbonaceous materials. An " Ansolvo " acid is an acid substance obtained by mixing an organic acid with an inorganic salt so that a complex body is formed which has the power of setting free hydrogen ions and is characterized by liberating nitrogen from diazo-acetic acid. The " Ansolvo " acids are described in Liebig's Annalen Volume 455 particularly pages 235, 244, and 249. Temperatures of 350‹-600‹ C. and pressures varying from atmospheric to 1000 atmospheres may be used. 100 parts of a tar fraction boiling between 200-350‹ C. are treated with 5 parts of a double compound of a-naphthoic acid and tin tetrachloride at 350-400‹ C. and 10 atmospheres pressure and a product was obtained, 41 per cent of which boiled under 200‹ C. Other " Ansolvo ' acids which may be used as compounds of 1-naphthol carboxylic acid and aluminium chloride, oleic acid and zinc chloride, formic acid and aluminium chloride, a-naphthoic acid and antimony pentachloride.
