Abstract
308,535. Mansell, E. July 6, 1928. Wire strainers comprise a rack 5, to one end 17 of which a wire end is anchored, or which is itself anchored to a post &c. and which is traversed by a sliding member 1 to which the other wire end is anchored. An operating lever 8, the socket 6 of which is bifurcated, is pivoted at 7 to the sliding member and is provided with two oppositely directed spring-pressed pawls 9, 10 arranged on opposite sides of the pivot for engaging the teeth of the rack. The pawl 10 is U-shaped and passes through apertures 3 in the sides of the sliding member whilst the pawl 9 passes through an aperture 2 in the top of the member. Alternatively, the sliding member may be stationary and the rack made to slide therethrough, or the sliding member may exert a thrust instead of a pull.
