Abstract
163,168. Whitehouse, J. A. F. March 5, 1920. Bowden mechanism; ratchet gearing. -A split pin, key, &c. extractor comprises a pin &c. engaging member and an abutment member connected respectively to the inner wire and outer tube of a Bowden mechanism which is operated by ratchet mechanasm. As shown, a member b, Fig. 1, hooked or otherwise to engage the pin &c. c to be extracted is mounted in a tubular abutment a connected to one end of the Bowden tube f, the other end of which is secured to one of a pair of pivoted hand-grips h, Fig. 3. The inner wire e is attached to the member b and to a ratchet wheel i loose on the pivot of the grips h. Spring-controlled ratchet operating and retaining pawls j, are pivoted to the grips and, when the grips are fully closed, the pawls are held clear of the ratchet wheel i, by the coaction of cams l on the pawl pivots as shown. The Provisional Specification states that a chain may be used instead of the wire e.
