Abstract

305,317. Molins, W. E. Dec. 1, 1927. Cigarette-making machines.-In a tobaccofeeding apparatus for continuous-rod machines, one or more carded rollers 12 are disposed above the combing roller 3 and in close proximity to the surface of the brushing roller 4 so as to be rotatable in the same direction as the roller 4 and preferably at a higher speed. As shown in Fig. 2, three rollers 12 are carried by a frame 13 pivoted at 14 and locked in the desired angular position by means engaging a slot 15. The rollers 12, are gear-driven and prevent the rise of ropes or masses of tobacco which may be formed where the rollers 3, 4 met. The device, is shown as applied to the feeding apparatus described in Specification 249,575, but the smooth feeding roller 2 may be replaced by a belt or by a carded roller as described in Specification 286,864, and the carded roller serving as a distributor in that Specification may be replaced by a belt.
