Abstract
304,964. Cooper, E. J. April 25, 1928. Roving frames; spindle apparatus.-A roving frame is used for gill spinning in the production of yarns, threads, twines, and the like, the usual differential gear and associated mechanism for driving the bobbins being dispensed with and the bobbins braked by automatic means. The bobbins are secured to carriers 3a provided with a plate 3b. which rests upon a leather disc 6 and is engaged on its upper surface by a leather disc 8 carried by plates 9 pressed by means of springs 10, the pressure of which is adjusted by cams 11 on the usual bobbin shaft 12, which is operated by a moving part of the machine so as to vary the effect of the drag in accordance with the diameter of the bobbin. The discs 6 are carried by plates 7 which are provided with an upturned edge 7a to form an oil bath. Guards and protectors for machinery, arrangement and disposition of.-A ring 20 extends above the top plate of lifting-rail or builder 5 immediately below the bobbin and is adapted to protect the inside of the rail from dirt.
