Abstract
304,806. British Celanese, Ltd., Dickie, W. A., Platts, T. H., and: Latham, L. Sept, 28, 1927. Spindle apparatus. - In twisting and doubling yarns or threads of fibres or filaments of any kind, especially yarns or threads of cellulose acetate or other artificial silk filaments or fibres, and particularly in twisting yarns or threads of high twist especially those known as crÛpe threads for the manufacture of natural or artificial silk crepe fabrics, the yarn is drawn from a rotating bobbin 1 through a floating ring 11, disc flyer, spiral, or equivalent so that it follows a balloon-shaped path, and, bearing against a disc, flange, or annular shoulder 9 fast on the spindle, passes to a guide 13, preferably fixed and centrally arranged over the spindle. The disc 9 is formed on a member 8 which bears against or is screwed, as shown in Fig. 4, into a lower member 5, the flange 7 of which may be chamfered to facilitate threading. The winding-bobbin 15 is preferably driven by a roller 16 to ensure a constant linear speed of the yarn. The bobbin may be traversed to lay the yarn, or a reciprocating guide 14 may be provided, or the guide 13 only may be used, either it or the bobbin being reciprocated.
