Abstract
303,332. Robertson, J. H. June 25, 1928. Compound transparent sheets.-A process for manufacturing compound transparent and honsplinting sheets is characterized by applying to one surface of each of the glass sheets used a thin coating of casein which, when dry, is coated with a solution of celluloid in amyl acetate to which pure phenol is added. When the coated surfaces are dry, they are united to a sheet of celluloid of 20 thousandths of an inch thickness by immersing in a bath of ethyl or propyl alcohol and subjecting to gentle pressure. The united sheets are then pressed at a temperature of 55‹ C. for 20 minutes and finally baked for some hours at 55-60‹ C. The casein is prepared by treating first with phenol dissolved in distilled water and them dissolving the glutinous product in strong ammonia. The celluloid solution consists of 100 grams celluloid, 3 litres amyl acetate, and 500 ccs. pure phenol. The glass used is preferably hard drawn and is cleaned with nitric acid and distilled water.
