Abstract

Adjusting reflectors from a distance.-In a vehicle or other lamp provided with a pivoted reflector arranged to occupy either of two limiting positions, a spring-device is engaged between the reflector and a fixed part of the lamp to exert a retaining action on the reflector in either of its limiting positions, and when the reflector is moved the spring-device passes through an intermediate position of maximum strain. In the form shown, a parabolic reflector a is arranged to pivot about an inclined axis by means of pivots c on a ring d detachably fixed within the lamp casing b, and a helical spring g is placed between a pair of abutments e, f secured to the ring d and reflector a. In the normal position the flange h of the reflector abuts against one side of a rubber-covered stop i on the ring d, whilst in the depressed position an adjustable screw-device j secured by a bracket k to the reflector abuts against the opposite side of the stop i. A rod s secured to the rear of the reflector is connected to the piston of a small cylinder l hinged to the ring d and connected by a flexible tube n to a hand-operated cylinder adjacent the driver's seat or to the induction pipe of the engine. Alternatively, the reflector may be operated by interconnected rubber bulbs, solenoids or other electromagnetic devices, or by flexible or other mechanical devices.
