Abstract
301,321. M³ller, A. Nov. 25. 1927, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. Ornamenting.-In the manufacture of covering materials for f1oors, walls, furniture, &c., and particu1ar1y of materials having jasper or marble colour effects, a suitable backing, such as linoleum or tarred board, is first coated with a ground colour, to which different colours, to give the design, are then applied, for example, by spraying. The colours used are composed of a oellulose ester, a solvent, such as ether, benzyl acetate, butyl acetate, butyl lactate, or benzene and its homo1ogues, a pigment, and a suspension medium. The suspension medium consists of drying or semi-drying oils, such as linseed or wood oil, together with esters of alcohols containing four or more carbon atoms, such as butyl, amyl, or benzyl acetate, and resins soluble in these two components, such as mastic, manilla, or kauri copal. The covering colours have solvents of different constitution and different specific gravity, and may have incorporated therein an esterification product of fatty acids, such as linolenic, linolic, oleic. or stearic acid. The colours forming the design may be applied to the material i by means of spraying-devices c, in the form of the known spray-guns, to which colours are supplied from containers a, and compressed air from a pipe d. The triggers of the sprayguns are contro11ed by cams h on a shaft g, and the amount of opening of the jets is regulated by cams on a shaft r. The fabric is supplied with a coating of colour from a tank k. For the production of a jasper colour effect, a spreading- device, such as a brush q, is emp1oyed to give a 1ongitudina1 structure to the design. For marble effects, a soft, resilient, smooth spreading- device is used. The spraying-jets may be given a motion relative to the fabric. A non-repeated design, which has a certain, but not an exact, regu1arity is obtained.
