Abstract
301,197. Johnson, J. Y., (I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.-Ges.). Nov. 21, 1927. Addition to 289,980. Dibenzanthrone and isodibenzanthrone dyes are obtained by alkali fusion of 5-, 6-, 7-, and 8- aminobenzanthrones. In examples, dyes giving a bordeaux-red solution in sulphuric acid are obtained by alkali fusion, with caustic potash at 230‹ C., or 5-, 6-, and 7-aminobenzanthrones, and dye blue, green-grey, and violet respectively. A mixture of the two last products in the proportions of 4 to 1 respectively dyes cotton a deep black. By alkali fusion with 55 per cent alcoholic potash at 150‹ C., 5-aminobenzanthrone gives the same product as with caustic potash alone at 230‹ C., but 6-aminobenzanthrone, with alcoholic potash at 170‹ C., gives a dye soluble in sulphuric acid to a grey-green solution, and dyeing grey-violet, and 8-aminobenzanthrone, with alcoholic potash at 150‹ C., gives a dye soluble in sulphuric acid to a green solution, and dyeing greyish-blue. Specifications 12518/06 and 254,742 are referred to. Aminobenzanthrones. 5-, 6-, 7-, and 8-Aminobenzanthrones are obtained from the corresponding halogen derivatives by the action of ammonia at elevated temperatures. Chlorbenzanthrone. a-Chloranthraquinone is condensed with glycerine and sulphuric acid, and the mixture of 4-, 5-, and 8-chlorbenzanthrones separated by fractional crystallization. They melt at 152‹ C., 183‹ C., and 174‹ C. respectively.
