Abstract
301,088. Zellstofffabrik Waldhof, Hottenroth, V., and Faust, O. Nov. 24, 1927, [Convention date]. Preparatory treatment of cellulose.-The reactivity of cellulosic material of all kinds is increased by treating it with caustic alkali liquor containing less than 18 per cent of alkali, pressing to remove excess of alkali and thereafter subjecting the material saturated with caustic alkali to a ripening process followed by a washing treatment to remove the caustic alkali. In an example, air-dried bleached sulphite cellulose is immersed in 12 per cent soda lye and pressed off to about three times the original weight. The expressed mass is separated into fibres and stored in sheet metal drums for 5 days at 25‹ C., after which time the mass is washed, acidified, and neutralized. The material can be dried in known manner or used directly in the moist state. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 212,864 and 212,865.
