Steam, supplying. - Steam jets are delivered in the form of a pyramid over a furnace grate from a nozzle D arranged above the firedoor and to prevent the escape of gases from the rear of the grate before they are mixed with the cooler gases from the front, additional stoam jets are delivered forwardly from a pipe D' at the firebridge so as to converge towards the nozzle D. A horizontal jet of steam may also be delivered at the bridge. In applying the invention to a water-tube boiler furnace the jets issuing from the pipe at the firebridge converge to a point above and to the rear of the nozzle D.
