Mechanical toys; railways. -An instructional tov comprises a base on or over which are mounted tracks representing roads or airways, turntables being arranged at crossings or junctions to enable the direction of a model vehicle &c. to be changed at will. In the form shown in Fig. 1 the tracks represent roads on a map, and the turntables are controlled from the edge of the board by means of a lever 37, and a pulley 28. When the lever is swung over to the dotted position, Fig. 7, a lever 33 is operated to thrust a wedge 34 between the two arms of a pair of pincer-like elements 31 mounted on the turntable. The elements being thus opened out obstruct the rear wheels of the vehicle to retain it on the table which is then rotated by the pulley 28 and an endless belt to direct the vehicle towards the desired route. In a modification, Fig. 18, the tracks may be supported above the board and be traversed by a model aeroplane adapted to be stopped at, selected points by a conical head 80 raised and lowered electromagnetically. The moving object may travel under self-contained clockwork or electric power or it may be propelled by an electric motor supplied with current by a conductor rail.
