Refrigerating, absorption machines for. - In apparatus wherein the rectifier is cooled by evaporating refrigerant, as described in Specifications 274,340 and 282,771, the refrigerant for this cooling is taken from a point intermediate the ends of the condenser, and vapour of refrigerant produced in the rectifier cooling- chamber passes into the second part of the condenser together with the main stream of refrigerant vapour not yet condensed. In the example shown in Fig. 2 the rectifier is formed in the expulsion pipe 6 fitted with baffles 8, and is surrounded by a chamber 5 which is supplied with refrigerant condensed in the first part of the condenser 7 through a pipe 17 of sufficiently large bore to allow simultaneous inflow of condensate and outflow of vapour. The second part of the condenser is connected with the evaporator 10. A modification is described in which the chamber 5 is connected by separate openings with the first and second parts of the condenser and forms a sump between the parts. This arrangement is described in connection with the known continuous-cycle inert gas system.
