Abstract
298,445. Keays, R. J., and Coffey, E. I. March 31, 1928. Clips and clamps, pivoted-jaw.-A clamping- device for sheets or pads of paper comprises a base A. Fig. 3, a main clamping-member C, a spring E for providing the clamping action, and an intermediate clamping-member D between the spring E and the member C which allows the member C to have a wide range of movement for a comparatively small movement of the spring E. The member C extends for practically the width of the base A, as shown in Fig. 1, and has an actuating-device D, E near each end; it is slightly concaved and beaded at 6, Fig. 3, so as to reduce friction on the base A. Slots 7 are provided in the member C to receive projecting tongues 14 on the members D, which have a flange 12 at the other edge adapted to engage a shoulder 16 formed on the base A. One end of each spring E seats in a recess 17 pressed in the corresponding member D, and the other end engages a projection 19 formed on the base A adjacent to the shoulder 16. The upper edge of the base A is reinforced by turning it. back on itself as shown at 5. A strap 9, Fig. 1, for manipulating the device is attached through a slot 8 in the member C. Filing-posts 11 attached to the base A and corresponding perforations 10 in the member C may be provided.
