Abstract
294,456. Marks, E. C. R., (Borda, C. J.). March 10, 1928. Levelling-heads.-A levelling-head comprises a bracket 10 secured to the head of a tripod 1 and formed at its free end with a solid ring 13 and split rings 14, 15. The inner surfaces of the rings are of spherical form and support a spherical member 21 formed with a flattened surface 23 and a boss 24 for attaching the instrument to be levelled. At a point diametrically opposite the boss 24 the sphere is tapped to receive a rod 26 having at its lower end a pendulum weight 27. The free ends of the rings 14, 15 are provided with ears 16, 17 receiving a clamping- screw 29 by which the sphere can be clamped after the instrument has assumed the level position under the action of the pendulum. Ball bearings 22 are provided between the ring 13 and sphere 21.
