Abstract

Filaments.-An incandescent body, especially for bulbs for projection lamps, consists of a number of parallel lengths of metal ribbon a<1>, a<3> connected together at alternate ends, the connecting portions c being so bent that two groups of the parallel lengths are formed lying in parallel planes so disposed that, when viewed from the direction of principal light emission, they appear to form a substantially uninterrupted luminous surface. The ribbon is first stamped from a sheet in the form shown in Fig. 6, and the connecting portions c are bent so that either only one-half or the whole of the parallel lengths lie in parallel planes, as shown in section respectively in Figs. 4 and 7.
