Winding-machines.-In a yarnwinding machine wherein the yarn is given a restricted traverse to wind a bunch before, the main winding is built up and the bunch-winding means is rendered inoperative and the service-winding operative automatically on completion of the bunch, the yarn is automatically transferred from the bunch-winding thread-guide to the service-winding thread-guide when the bunch is completed. In a machine of the, type set forth and, for instance, as described in Specification 15338/13, the service-winding thread-guide 4, Fig. 1, is reciprocated adjacent to the winding spindle 2 so that the free length of yarn is relatively short. while the bunch-building thread-guide 25; is mounted on the support of the guide, 4 and is reciprocated along a path spaced away from the spindle 2 to give a relatively long free length of yarn. The yarn y is first fed over the guide 4 and thence over the notch 33 on the guide 25 to the spindle 2, as shown in Fig. 2, and owing to the free length of yarn from the notch 33 to the bunch b is wound over a length of the bobbin B less than the traverse of the guide, as shown in Fig. 1. On completion of the bunch the yarn is automatically lifted from the guide 25 by a releasing member 35 operated similarly to the releasing mechanism described in Specification 15338/13. The member 35 is mounted by an arm 37 on a lever 40 pvioted at 41 and having an arm 42 bearing on a cam 43. The cam 43 is integral with a ratchet-wheel 45 which is rotated by a pawl 51 carried on an arm 52 on the engagement of members 19, 58 at every reciprocation of the traverse bar 5, and after a predetermined number of reciprocations the arm 42 slides across the cut-out portion 59 of the cam 43, Fig. 5, and the member 35 is swung back, as shown in Fig. 1, to release the yarn y from the guide 25, the guide 4 thereafter completing the main winding. The releasing member is re-set manually. The guide 25 is adjustably mounted on a strip 27 connecting the legs 26 of a yoke 21, a loop 28 on the yoke 21 straddling a fixed guide-rod 29, Fig. 2.
