Abstract
293,395. British Thomson - - Houston Co., Ltd., (Assignees of Abbott, C. C.). July 5, 1927, [Convention date]. Heating by electricity; ; resistance furnaces. - An immersion heater, particularly for type metal pots, comprises an enlarged body portion 11 and an upwardly extending neck portion 12, and resilient means co-operating with the neck portion to hold the heater against the side of the pot. Heating elements 17 are embedded in the body and extend upward into the neck to a sufficient distance to keep the metal fluid around the neck and thus provide a vent to allow expansion of the metal. The heater is resiliently supported by means of a knife edge 25 and bolts 30 fitted with spring washers 30<a> and engaging lugs on the heater and holes in the pot 10. The heater comprises a casting in which are embedded two elements of the type described in Specification 144,767, [Class 38 (i), Electric couplings &c.], bent into sinous form. Connections 32 pass through the neck to the elements.
