Abstract

292,714. Minogue, R. E. April 2, 1927. Stationary mixers with rotary stirrers.-In apparatus for mixing slurry and other semiliquids of the kind comprising a tank in which is a rotary stirrer with means for passing streams of air through the slurry &c., means is provided for automatically controlling the supply of air whereby the air is supplied for definite periods and is more evenly distributed throughout the mass. The agitator bar 3 is carried by a block 4 mounted on a shaft 1 carried in bearings 12. 15 on cross members 2 bridging the tank and the block 4 is supported by a bearing 15<1>. The agitator bar 3, provided with downwardly inclined teeth 66, carries pipes 26 - - 29 terminating in nozzles at different distances from the shaft 1 and connected to a valve .casing 35 secured to the gearing 23 by which the shaft 1 is rotated. In the valve casing is a distributing-valve 41 with a cavity 42 in communication with one or other of the pipes. The valve is rotated relatively to the casing by means of a chain drive 49 and gearing 46, 47 whereby the air, supplied by the pipe 30. is distributed to the pipes 26 - - 29 in turn. The air supply is further controlled by a spring-influenced valve 53 operated by a cam 56 actuated by ratchet mechanism from a cam 65 on the shaft 1.
