Abstract

289,657. Terry & Sons, Ltd., H., and Perry, H. W. May 31, 1927. E x h a u s t silencers. - The silencer comprises a substantially cylindrical casing a the outer end of which is closed by a cap b, the inner end having a socket f with slots g for attaching to the exhaust pipe. The casing contains a sheet metal scroll or volute c the inner convolution of which communicates with an axial inlet chamber d, the outer convolution communicating with a V-shaped discharge slot h extending the whole length of the casing. The scroll is produced from a substantially rectangular sheet by rolling or bending and has a number of aluminium or other spacing strips e between the convolutions.
