Abstract

288,085. Elgie, F., and Pyle, F. T. Aug. 26, 1927. Reversing-gearing comprises a shaft 6 which swings about a shaft 4 to which it is geared so as to bring a bevel-wheel 11 secured near its free end into mesh alternatively with pinions 2 fast on another shaft 1 supported in a fixed bearing 3. The shaft 6 swings in the plane of Fig. 1, its lower end being supported in a foot-step bearing 9, Fig. 2, which swings with a pivoted arm 9'. The shaft 6 is pivoted about the shaft 4 by a bracket 5 which holds a pair 7, 8 in mesh. Reversal is effected through a pull-rod 12. The shaft 6 may hang so as to have pendular motion.
