Abstract

287,712. Miller, C. L. March 23, 1927. Exhaust-silencers. - The exhaust gases enter an expansion chamber a through a pipe b with splayed or bevelled end. The expansion chamber is fitted with one or more outlet pipes c coaxial with each of which and spaced therefrom is a tube e. Each tube passes through the expansion chamber, has a flared inlet end f and extends at the other end beyond the outlet pipe and terminates in an outlet, g of fish-tail or equivalent form. The tube is perforated on opposite sides at h to allow some of the exhaust to enter and induce a current of air.
