Abstract

287,570. Etablissements E. Belin. March 24, 1927, [Convention date]. Loud-speakers; diaphragms; magnetic instruments.-A hornless loud-speaker is provided with a carbon diaphragm. The actuating means may either be a moving coil or as shown a small plate 6 of soft iron secured to the diaphragm by glue, resin or cement or by means of a small screw and nut, the plate co-operating with an electromagnet 7. In the latter case, regulation of sensitivity and volume may be obtained (1) by moving the electromagnet towards or away from the diaphragm by means of a micrometer screw 9 (2) by means of a regulatawe shunt across the windings of the electromagnet or (3) by varying the number of turns of the winding 8 in circuit. The diaphragm is maintained at a suitable tension between a circular main support 2 and a U- sectioned ring piece 3 by means of an annular washer or washers 4 of paper, pasteboard &c. and screws 5. Circular or annular interchangeable accessory pieces may be carried either by the main support or ring piece, the pieces serving to diminish the useful diameter of the vibrating surface by coming into contact with the diaphragm and thus creating nodal lines thereon.
