287,422. Herbert, Sir A., and Vernon, P. V. Oct. 27, 1927. Machine framings.-In a lathe or like machine of the kind having a carriage or table longitudinally movable on a bed, the bed 2 is supported at one end by a rigid standard having two points of contact with the ground and at the other end by a standard 8 also having two points of contact with the ground and having spaced lugs embracing a. boss 6 on a member 4 attached by screws 3 to the machine bed with or without the interposition of a tray 5. A pin 7 passes through the lugs and boss so as to allow the standard to oscillate in a plane perpendicular to the machine axis and about an axis parallel thereto in order to relieve the bed from torsional stress when the floor is uneven but to maintain longitudinal rigidity. Clearance to allow oscillation is provided at 12 and the pivoted joint may be locked by set-screws 13, 14 in the boss and lugs respectively.
