Abstract
285,553. Junghans, O. Nov. 16, 1926. Projectile fuzes.-A centrifugally-driven clockwork fuze is combined with one or more auxiliary clockworks for releasing safety devices. In the form shown, a sector-shaped member 48 carrying an explosive charge 45 and pivoting about a spindle 49 is normally held by a bolt 50 in the safe position, with the charge 45 out of line with fixed charges 44, 46, 47 and with its solid part obstructing the transmission of the explosion. The belt 50 is held in this locking position by a toothed quadrant 51 pivoting about a pin 52 and meshing with a pinion 53 fast with an escapement wheel 54 engaged by a pallet 55. This auxiliary clockwork is operated by the centrifugal force acting on the quadrant 51, and at the appointed time releases the bolt 50. The bolt is then lifted by a spring and frees the sector 48, which is swung by centrifugal force and brings the charge 45 in line with the other charges as shown in the Figure. The main clockwork is released and driven by centrifugal force and leases the spring striker in well-known way.
