Abstract
284,514. Haughton, J. W. May 16, 1927. Beetling.-T-shaped beetles 1 are pivoted on a shaft 2 and operate on the cloth on two rollers 7, 8. Each beetle is lifted to a vertical position by a roller 11 at its lower end and' flank members 13, 14 secured to a sliding shaft 12 and embracing a cam 19 on the main shaft 18, the beetle then falling by gravity against the cloth roller 7 or 8. The roller shafts 5, 6 rest in open bearings 48 and are rotated and reciprocated endways by the gear wheels 40 and the shrouded pinions 35 on shafts 32 driven by bevel gearing from a shaft 27 which is driven by bevel and worm glaring from the shaft 18. The pinions 35 are free to slide on the shafts 32 and are. made in one with cams 34 which engage fixed pins 39. The shafts 12 and 27 may be extended to operate the beetles and cloth rollers of adjacent machines. Locking bars 46 are provided by the part rotation of which any beetle may be prevented from acting on either cloth roller.
