Abstract

284,343. De Forest Phonofilms, Ltd., (Assignees of Forest, L. de). Jan. 29, 1927, [Convention date]. Loud-speakers; diaphragms. - A loud-speaker adapted to reproduce more faithfully the lower and higher frequencies of the audible range comprises a conical member 7 resiliently supported on arms 9 by a flexible ring 12 and connected by a truncated conical member 13 to a flat diaphragm 15, which is supported at the edge by a member 18 provided with a ring or projections 17 adapted to tension the diaphragm to any desired degree. The conical member carries a coil 5 lying in the circular air gap of an electromagnet 2. The diaphragm 15 is made of flexible material such as parchment, sheepskin, woven fabric, or thin metal, e.g. aluminium, and may have a circular, rectangular, or polygonal outline. The cone 7 may be made of paper and may be built up in concentric sections. To secure satisfactory reproduction over the entire audible range a number of loud-speakers may be used simultaneously. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) states that the diaphragm 15 may be made of the material known under the registered Trade Mark " Duralumin." This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
