Folding type - lever machines.-A support for the type-lever segment and paper-carriage is pivoted to a frame which is articulated to a base, the support and frame being folded on to the base to collapse the machine. In the machine shown in Fig. 2, a frame 1 is articulated by means of pivoted arms 12 to a base 9 forming part of a casing, the frame having rollers 10 which run on guides 11 when the frame is folded on to the base. A support 18 mounted on trunnions 32 on the frame 1 carries the type-lever segment 19 and paper-carriage 34, the segment being secured to the frame and the bed 33 of the papercarriage being secured to blocks 22 having rails 24 which are guided vertically by means of rails 23 on the support, balls being arranged between the rails. The support is held in the vertical position by means of a spring-ball. The typelevers 20 are connected by adjustable links 26 to slotted bell-cranks 7 engaging pins 6 on key-stems 4 which are guided by tubes 5 on the frame. The machine is collapsed by folding the frame and support backwards into the casing. In both the normal and folded state of the machine, the typelevers rest horizontally on a bail 29 which is pivoted at 29<1> to the frame 1 and engages an arm 30 pivoted at 31 to the support 18, the bail assuming a horizontal position when the machine is collapsed. The machine is equipped with an escapement 40 and a ribbon vibrator which are operated by a universal bar in the path of the type-levers.
