Abstract
282,799. Akt.-Ges. Brown, Boveri, et Cie. Dec. 27, 1926, [Convention date]. Gases, supplying; charging and dischargina; cooling discharged materials; hearths.-In a furnace for annealing articles in an inert atmosphere, of the kind comprising openbottomed heating and cooling units c, d disposed above a chamber a in which is located a rotatable and vertically movable table f carrying the work-supporting closures g for the units c, d, means are provided for causing the protective gas to sweep over the charge immediately it is removed from the heating chamber. As shown, this movement of the gas in the chamber a is effected by the vertical movement of the table f which is extended horizontally at m and provided with double side walls n to form, in combination with a cylinder o depending from the furnace trance b, a seal for the chamber a. The latter is connected to a gas storage vessel by a pipe p. The cooling chamber d, which also serves for charging and discharging, comprises a removable bell dipping into a seal r, escape of gas, when the bell is removed, being prevented by a depending fiange i which extends into a sealing trough h surrounding the work support g. A separate cooling unit may be provided between the chambers c, d. A modification is described in which the member carrying the closures g is stationary, the chambers c, d being movable vertically to effect the movement of the protective gas.
