Abstract
281,634. De Forest Phonofilms, Ltd., (Assignees of Forest, L. de, and Halpenny, R.). Dec. 1, 1926, [Convention date]. Loud-speakers; magnetic instruments. - A loud - speaker comprises in combination a horn type reproducer and a cone type reproducer, the latter being carried by the former. The horn is preferably of the logarithmic type and associated with a motion picture screen, as described in Specification 277,314. Fig. 1 shows one construction in which the mouth 4 of the horn 2 projects, above the screen 1. An aperture 5 in the bell portion of the horn has mounted in alignment. therewith a cone speaker unit, which is preferably of the moving coil type and comprises a cone 11 and casing 6 mounted on brackets 7, 8. Instead of being mounted directly on the bell portion as shown, the cone speaker may be mounted adjacent thereto. In the modification, Fig. 2, a baffle plate 12 is provided across the central portion of the mouth 4 of the horn, the baffle having a central aperture 13 and perferably forming the front wall of a casing 14 within which the cone speaker 6, 11 is mounted. Both the above constructions may be modified so as to use a straight horn.
