Abstract

280,984. Angus, J., and Thornton, D. April 9, 1927. Skid.-Brake mechanism for vehicles comprises slippers H secured to arms E suspended both in front of and behind the rear wheels, from brackets G on the axle casing: the arms are connected by transverse members which are connected by ropes J to drums M adapted to be rotated to wind the ropes thereon and raise the slippers, the drums being locked or released by catches W engaging recesses in the drums and operated by levers S. Ropes Y adjustable by eyebolts Z passing through brackets on the vehicle chassis are secured to the slippers H. The drums are rotated by means of a hand lever fitting on the squared ends p of the drum shafts. The hand levers s are pivoted at t and have fingers v engaging slots in the catches w. The slippers are channelled and provided with rollers and an inclined plane at the mouth of the channel to raise the wheel on to the rollers. A double channelled slipper is employed for twin-tyred wheels.
