277,792. B.S.A. Tools, Ltd., and Ogilvie, W. Aug. 23,1926. Centreless grinding.-In a centreless grinding machine wherein the work is supported on a holder between a grinding-wheel and a governing- wheel, the grinding-wheel is reciprocated axially, to equalize wear, by means of a worm 3 mounted on the grinding-wheel spindle 1 and supporting a casing 4, 5 in which is a worm wheel 6 driven by the worm. On the faces of the wheel 6 are cam grooves 15 engaged by bowls 14 carried by a slide 12 supported in a bracket 11 fixed to the machine frame; a second slide 16 also engages the bracket and is secured to the casing. Either slide may be locked by turning a spindle 18 to bring a projection 19 thereon into engagement with grooves 21, 22 respectively in the slides; when the slide 12 is locked, the casing and the spindle are reciprocated by the cam grooves, and when the slide 16 is locked, the reciprocation ceases.
