Abstract
275,881. Russell, F. C., (trading as Russell, Newbery, & Co.). and Bradbury. J. H. Feb. 23, 1927. Universal joints; securing together machine elements for transmitting rotary motion.-Universal shaft couplings for magneto drives &c. comprise a driving-member a' having, say, six facets coacting with, say, three internal flats on a driven drum b through metallic springs or cork or other elastic strips, the driven member b, which may be externally knurled, being formed with an adjustable inner split part c provided with the flats. The part c is expanded by the engagement of a T-head d<1> on a bolt d with the bevelled end of its split c<3> and of the conical nut d<2> with a countersunk recess. The ends of split-pin-shaped springs e are received in recesses c<1>, c<2>, the entrances to the recesses c<1> being cut away at c<4> to allow flexure of the springs, one limb of each of which is initially curved outwards, so that the springs bear on the part a<1> with initial tension.
