Abstract

275,817. Jones, J. D. Aug. 18, 1926, [Convention date]. Capillary - action lubricating. - In a bearing for a vertical shaft, oil is sucked by the rotation of the shaft through conduits communicating with the bearing surface through openings 21 arranged at different levels, from a reservoir 13 surrounding and extending partially along the length of the bearing, ports 25 arranged above the openings 21 being adapted to return oil to the reservoir. Where the bearing is divided, as shown, the halves are formed with separate reservoirs communicating through holes 15. A filling opening 16 is provided. The conduits 17 are formed by grooves provided in the bearing casting and covered bv the bushing 19, the grooves communicating with the reservoir through openings 20.
