275,814. M.-L. Magneto Syndicate, Ltd., and Laird, J. A. Sept. 29, 1926. Spark-gap apparatus. - An instrument for measuring high voltages includes a variable spark gap between electrodes h, c mounted on the underside of an insulating panel or top plate having an aperture through which the spark gap may be observed and a knob and graduated dial l actuating a cam k by which the movable electrode h of the spark gap may be measurably adjusted. The electrode h is connected to an earth terminal g, the other electrode c being connected to the plate of a valve a. The high-tension terminal b is connected to the filament of the valve. A sparking-plug to be tested is connected to the high-tension terminal b, the switch e closed, and the spark gap adjusted until sparking just appears or disappears. The length of the spark gap as indicated on the graduated dial is a measure of the peak voltage attained at the spark plug.
