Abstract
275,022. Mills & Co. (Engineers), Ltd., J., and Ramsbottom, E. Aug. 10. 1926. Firebridges.-An air heating device arranged within a brick-work structure b<1>,< >b<2>, b<3> at the rear of a firebridge b comprises plates c threaded and spaced on rods d<1> suspended between angle-iron bearers d which rest upon the fire-brick courses b<2>. The assembly of plates is closed on the top surface, open at the rear, and at the front communicates with a space below the bridge-plate a to which air from beneath the grate is admitted through a valve a<3> operated by a shaft a<4> and handle a<5>. The bearers d extend backwards over the fire-brick course b<3> and form the side walls of a delivery conduit d<2> for the heated air, closed at the top by a plate d<3> permanently or removably secured. The air valve a<3> is either kept open or opened at intervals after firing, the plate structure being re-heated and rendered incandescent during the time the air valve is closed. The plates c may be corrugated.
