Abstract

Control mechanism. - In a twist-grip control for motor-cycles &c. of the type in which the cable or other transmission member is operated through a slide actuated by a pin and helical slot or equivalent mechanism, a motion-multiplying device, such as a lever, is employed between the twist-grip and the transmission member, in order that the helical slot may be of small pitch, whereby reverse movement of the grip under spring action is prevented without the use of a friction device. The helical slot is formed in the thickened walls of the inner end of the metal sleeve of the twist-grip 3, and is engaged by a depending pin 22 on a lever 18 pivoted at 19 on the upper surface of a housing 8, the free end 20 of the lever engaging a recess in a slide 15, which moves along a groove 14 in the housing 8 and is provided with a recess to receive the terminal block of the transmission cable 23. The lever and slide are enclosed by a detachable cover, which is held in place by a screw forming the pivot 19. The housing 8 is fixed to the handle-bar 6, and forms an end abutment for the twist-grip. In a modification, a bell-crank lever is employed, the transmission cable being arranged transverse to the axis of the grip.
