Abstract
274,398. Dell, H. G. May 2, 1927. Lasts.- A last has depressions of differing depth on the sole corresponding to the foot bones and a slightly inclined, weakly curved surface on the outer side of the heel, so that in the shoe made on the last there will be little pressure on toe joints, and the foot will not be forced to the outer side of the shoe. A depression i in the last, of say 1¢ centimetres depth, corresponds in position to the metatarsus bone c, a depression k of 1 centimetre corresponds to the wedge bone d and middle bone e, and a depression l of ¢ centimetre corresponds to the ankle hone f and heel bone g. To balance the outward thrust on the foot the outer side of the heel portion of the last is cut away as shown in section in Fig. 5.
