Abstract
273,359. Broom, H. S. Feb. 23, 1926. Fixed-abutment type; discharge and suction pipes and passages for pumps, blowers, and exhausters; packing drums.-In a rotary pump or the like comprising a rotor with a number of radially sliding vanes eccentrically mounted within an outer freely rotatable cylinder 21 which is provided with inwardly projecting flanges or rings 20 formed with sleeves 41 adapted to be mounted in ball bearings on the fixed supporting casing, interior ported plates 38 fixed to the casing and abutting against the ends of the rotor give communication with the working space. Access of pressure fluid to the cylinder-carrying flanges or rings 20 may be prevented by casting the fixed ported plates 38 with another wall 39 to form an enclosed space and a, sleeve 37 which abuts against a ring portion 46 of a member 45 which contains the pressure fluid outlet and carries the bearings for the rotor shaft 10. The member 45 is secured to the casing bracket 42 which carries the ball bearings for supporting the rotary cylinder 21. Labyrinth packing is provided between the fixed ported plates 38 and the rotary cylinder 21. The fixed ported plates may be pressed against the rotor by a spring mounting and the ports therein may co-operate with supply and discharge, passages in the rotor body the ports of which are situated radially inward of the vane. slots.
