Cylinders, ports of.-Guide vanes G, H, provided in the scavenging air ports E, are set back from the cylinder bore a distance c<1> to cause the air to enter the cylinder in a single stream. The vanes follow the form of the walls of the ports, and, when the piston is at the end of its out-stroke air, entering through the passage c, is diverted and joins the air flowing in through the passages a, b.
