Abstract
272,457. Motte, C. M. June 9, 1926, [Convention date]. Rudders; steering gear, -Two rudders acting jointly or oppositely are placed behind jet propellers. The turbine 1, Fig. 2, is vertically disposed above an inlet in the bottom of the boat and delivers horizontally at the stern. Two rudders 6, 7 pivoted at 10, 11 are disposed on either side of the outlet and are coupled by levers 23, 24 to a nut 21. Rotation of the handwheel 20 and screw 15 moves the nut axially and the two rudders are moved oppositely for reversing. Movement of the tiller rotates the head 16 and the rudders are moved in the same direction for steering. Each rudder has a top and bottom horizontal panel to form a complete closure when in position for reversing- When two turbines 25, 26 are employed the rudders 28, 29 are fitted below the counter or in a recess and only a bottom horizontal panel 30, Figs. 6 and 7, is fitted to each rudder.
