Abstract

Crank-actuated pumps; diaphragm-pumps; delivery pipes.-A diaphragm pump suitable for boreholes comprises a cylindrical casing to which a polygonal frame carrying several flexible diaphragms 8 is fixed at its corners, forming several segmental pump chambers 7 provided with inlet and deliver valves 17, 23. Coaxially arranged in the cylinder 2 is a crank shaft 10 carrying a number of rollers 29, which, during the rotation of the shaft, bend the diaphragms outwards, thereby producing a pumping action in the chambers 7. The liquid is delivered into a chamber 16 to which the delivery pipe 35 is connected. The shaft may be held stationary by means of a crossbar 33 in the borehole, while the cylinder 2 is rotated or oscillated by a pulley 39 or cranks 40 on the delivery pipe. The diaphragms may be strengthened by ribbed members 31.
