Flat extended surfaces, surfacing.-In a surface grinding machine the table a is reciprocated on a bed b by means of a double-acting hydraulic cylinder c, the rod e of which is connected to a slide f running in guides in the bed. The slide carries two pulleys g, h, two ropes i, j being provided secured at one end to brackets m, o respectively, on the bed, and at their other ends to brackets k, n on the table; by this means the movement of the table is multiplied as compared with that of the slide f.
