Abstract

270,790. Stimson, J. C. Feb. 8, 1926. Reflectors. - In reflectors comprising a number of contiguous, central triple reflector units, the angle between one or more pairs of the reflecting surfaces of each unit deviates from a right angle, and the surfaces are deformed throughout their area, so as to produce merging and slightlyspreading reflected beams of uniform intensity. The units may be moulded, the angles of the mould being only approximately accurate, and its surfaces being as plane as conveniently possible, and polished, but nevertheless possessing minute irregularities. The spread of the beam may be regulated by controlling the degree of polish and the shrinkage of the glass during the pressing operation. The units may be pressed from a single glass plate and have incident faces of equilateral triangular shape arranged contiguously. Alternatively, as shown, they may be pressed so as to have square reflecting surfaces, the corresponding surfaces of all the units being in the same or parallel planes.
