Abstract

730,860. Trough-shaped light reflectors. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Sept. 19, 1952 [Nov. 22, 1951], No. 27425/51. Classes 75 (2) and 75 (4). In an optical system consisting of two trough-shaped reflecting surfaces 2, 3 of substantially parabolic cross-section arranged back to back and having the portions lying between their lines of intersection removed so that a horizontal elongated light source 1 can be located at the coincident line foci of the reflecting surfaces, the outer portions 5 of a pair of flanks of the reflecting surfaces are so shaped as to direct the light incident upon them across the central planes 4 containing the common line focus and the axes of the unmodified parabolic reflecting surface at angles to the central planes which increase as the distance from the apex increases and are extended beyond the other pair of flanks so as to reflect light towards the area obscured from the source by the other pair of flanks. The flanks directing the light across the central planes are so shaped that light from their inner parabolic portions do not strike their outer portions 5. The reflectors are enclosed in a bowl which is figured to spread the light in vertical planes. Specification 621,716 is referred to.
