Abstract

Cutting slices in succession. -In a slicing-machine, the motor for driving the knife shaft has a casing which is cylindrical or substantially cylindrical, the motor being mounted by inserting and securing it in an opening in the machine frame, or in a past connected thereto. The opening may be provided in the knife carrier in a member secured to the carrier. As shown in Fig. 6, the motor 8 has a cylindrical casing, concentric with the shaft 7, which casing is received in an eccentric sleeve 13 revoluble for adjustment in the opening between the split clamping- bands 9, 10 which are connected by a bolt 11. The pinion 6 meshes with teeth 5 on the back of the knife 4. The sleeve 13 may be dispensed with and the motor inserted directly in the bands 9, 10. The shaft of the motor may be concentric with the casing, or it may be eccentric thereto whereby adjustment of the motor shaft is effected by rotating the motor casing in the bands 9, 10. The bands 9, 10 may be separate from, and secured to, the knife carrier 1 and the motor may be arranged vertically beneath the knife shaft. The parts 9, 10 may be cast as an unbroken ring, in which case the motor may be secured in the opening by keys. The eccentric mounting of the motor permits the exchange of gear wheels to alter the gear ratio. The drive may be by rope, belt or friction pulleys. The shafts 3, 7 need not be parallel and the drive may be effected by bevel or spiral gear wheels.
