Abstract

269,826. Howarth, S. W. Feb. 17, 1926. Openers, cleaners, etc. -In a machine for extracting dust from and settling fur, hair, &c. the material is fed by an apron and feed rollers to a picker 37 at one end of a chamber 36. The outlet of the chamber is closed by a rotary perforated drum 40 divided into separate compartments by radial plates 41. One end of the drum is closed and the other is open, the side of the chamber adjacent to it being provided with a port 48 connected to a suction pipe 49. The fur &c. opened by thepicker settles on those sections of the drum in communication with the port 48 and is carried round outside the chamber. Dust, dirt, &c. is carried away by the pipe 49. The escape of air round the drum is prevented by a roller 43, a lath 44, and leather flaps 45, 46. Curved beads 47 project over the ends of the drum. The bottom of the chamber preferably slopes upwards and is curved round the picker.
